DIY Wet Painting Storage Box

Here’s an idea for a ‘do it yourself’ made wet painting storage box for car painting trips ... which you can improve on. I use a Staples file box that is 12 inches wide ... perfect for my 9x12 paintings. I used “D” Profile rubber weatherstripping (3/8” wide, 1/4” thick with self stick tape) for dividers.
To make it I put the box on end, then put a base divider in at the bottom, then slide 3 painting panels on top of base divider (for spacing) to put the next dividers along the top ... then repeated the steps to the top section ... where I glued one inch boards along one side and different stripping for 11x14” board storage (that part I can improve upon). The box sections each hold two panels back to back ... so this box will hold 16 - 9x12” wet boards and 7 - 11x14” boards. You could also buy boxes of your preferred sizes at any packing or office supply store.
It’s a very easy project with no measuring required. Remember that once you place the weatherstripping on, don’t take off and re-adjust it because it will not stick as well. (click on “Read more ... comments” below to see more photos of project.)

Summer Fair Painting Competitions

Hi Sue,

I am forwarding this info about the Plein Air Competition at the Contra Costa County Fair. It will be in Pittsburg. Some members might be interested to join it. There’s prize money-check out attachment (attachment is on the website’s Event Paintout page). The event will on the 5th of June.

Another one is at the Alameda County Fair, they also have Plein Air painting Competition. It’s similar event which will happen on July 1st. in Pleasanton. !st. place - $200.00, 2nd. - $150.00 & 3rd. - $100.00 Check this one on the web for info.

Both fairs have same amount for prizes.

Here’s another one – in Marin County. Happens on July 1st. 2010

Oakland Museum of CA Opening

I'm excited — The Oakland Museum of California is opening again after it's big renovation (the past 3 years)! Opening Weekend Celebration, May 1st and 2nd.

They have a great permanent collection, and always interesting exhibits, Dagroup members should definitely check out the permanent collection of landscape painting...
