Dear Artist Friends, Art Trekkers and Students,

Each course will feature six half-day painting classes (usually in the morning), a mid-trip group discussion of works in progress and a final celebration and art party.
Course content includes watercolor, fluid acrylic and collage techniques. For class and accommodation details, please email me at carol@arttreks.com.

Carcassonne June 28-July 5, 2010

Booking and Logistics Fee: $75 (non-refundable)
Accommodations: share twin $720 single $1400
Course Enrollment Deposit: $250 (payable by check to Art Trek)
Accommodation Deposit: $250 share twin $500 single
Upon receipt of deposit you will receive logistical recommendations for arriving and departing Carcassonne. All meals, excursions and transportation including international flight are on your own! Students enrolling in both classes may travel by train or private car between Collioure and Carcassonne.

Collioure
Picturesque and billed as the laid back St. Tropez of the Vermilion Coast, this small fishing village on the Mediterranean Sea just north of the Spanish border once hosted Fauve artists Henri Matisse and André Derain. The matchless light on pastel hued homes and Collioure’s famed wine also inspired Picasso and Braque. Set against a dramatic backdrop of vineyards and the foothills of the Pyrenees, this gem of a village hosts a thriving art community. Paint en plein air at selected village sights and around the harbor.

Carcassonne
A stunningly restored medieval town, Carcassonne's La Cité is a fairy tale enclave of turrets bathed in breathtaking light. Our beautiful and luxurious stone house mid-way between La Cité and Bastide St. Louis is a 15-minute walk from the restored castle (world heritage site) and a 15-minute walk from the famed Canal du Midi waterway. A walking path along the Aude River with exquisite views of La Cité is a 1-block meander from our French home away from home. Painting practice will take place in our private landscaped garden and en plein air at selected sites.

Cathar Castle Extension
Still pending is a July 5-9, 2010 extension to the precipitous and romantic Cathar castles of Peyrepertuse, Aguilar, Queribus and Montségur.

Classes
These classes are ideal for beginners, teachers, therapists and practicing artists seeking to enhance their work. Renew your art spirit with color and wet-into-wet water media techniques that offer the amateur and professional painter the broadest expressive range. Demonstrations and discussion will include wetting the paper or canvas, color flooding and gradation, brushwork, compositional energy, atmospheric effects, edge tinting, textual elegance, and the use of watercolor crayon, acrylic inks and polymer mediums for collage. In addition, we will experiment with the beauty of accidents, back-up puddles, color saturation and mixed media techniques. Whether your work moves in a realistic or abstract direction, innovative teaching methods will build self-confidence and enhance your skill. Individual instruction as time permits.

Carol Duchamp, M.A., University of Strasbourg, France, has been teaching painting classes in the U.S. and abroad for 12 years. Her teaching style encourages experimentation and self-discovery in a supportive environment that nourishes the intuitive power of self-expression.

Enrollment
To enroll please mail your class deposit check of $250 per class (payable to Art Trek) to Carol Duchamp, Art Trek, P.O. Box 1103, Bolinas, CA 94924. You will receive a confirmation letter, suggested art materials list, and logistical details regarding lodging and transportation. Balance of class fee is due 60-days prior to departure. An additional lodging deposit of $250 (share twin) or $500 (single) is due at time of enrollment for the Carcassonne class. There will be no refunds less than 60-days prior to departure unless a replacement can be found. We highly recommend that you purchase trip cancellation and medical evacuation insurance at the time you join the class. A convenient Travelers Insurance Pac is available through Art Trek.

I invite you to join one or both of these delightful and affordable painting classes to the Languedoc-Roussillon region of south France. I am pleased to be sharing both traditional and non-traditional water media and collage techniques with you. And I look forward to the art inspiration these field study travel classes will provide.

Do join me for a painting holiday that will nourish your art and your spirit!

Warm regards,

Carol Duchamp
