Hello,
I hope you are doing well.
Information about 2010 workshops is now on my website at this link
http://www.terrifordart.com/Workshops.html
Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Our annual workshop in Provence still has some openings for the painting workshop
taking place from July 1st to July 15. 2010.

This "breakthrough" workshop has 9 participating artists with 2 instructors.
That means a LOT of personal attention.
We have calculated this to be the equivalent of 3 quarters attending a painting class once a week.
But of course, there is much more to it than the number of hours per se.

We draw constantly, when we do not paint, like waiting for our lunch, before breakfast, in the car  going to the field...
anytime you want, since you really have nothing else to do but to be a full time artist

Plein Air Painting … A One-Day Workshop
by Ed Bertolet

I would like to give my first one-day workshop! The price is very reasonable and it is always good to review the things and processes we sometimes don’t pay enough attention to when we normally paint. I feel this workshop will give you very useful tools to paint better pictures.

The workshop would be on a Saturday (…would another day be better?) from 10 am to 5 pm at a location (yet to be determined) on the San Mateo Peninsula. I would ask that each participant be responsible for bringing their own lunch.

I would need a minimum of five (5) and a maximum of ten (10) people at $60 each to make the workshop viable. I would like to do this sometime in October, so if you are interested, please let me know and we can set a date that is mutually acceptable to those who wish to participate. If there are less than 5 people who wish to take the workshop, I will have to cancel and plan for another date.

WORKSHOP SCHEDULE

10 -11 am TALK
Meet at the selected site for an hour’s talk on the “picture-making” process. (I will be discussing things like design, composition, aerial perspective, values, brushwork, shapes and edges, color, focal point, transitions, “circle of vision”, simplification, etc.)

11-12:30 pm COMPOSITIONAL and VALUE Studies
Select several possible subjects in the area and do a number of small value studies in your sketchbook along with (and this is important) notes on your emotional reaction to the scene, ideas for a focal point, what you feel your potential problems might be and some possible color approaches. Look at the light and consider where it might be in the afternoon when you paint.

12:30 – 1:30 pm REVIEW SKETCHES
We will have a working lunch as we review each others sketches as a group and consider suggestions. Select your best sketch as a guide for the afternoon’s painting.

1:30 – 2:30 pm SETTLE ON COLOR
Do two quick 6x8 color studies using a limited palette to determine final color approach.

2:30 – 4:30 PAINT
With all your preparation, two hours should be sufficient time to complete your painting.

4:30 – 5 pm CRITIQUE
A final get-together admire our efforts.

MATERIALS
Camera, sketchbook, notebook, pencil or pen, two 6x8 toned panels, one 12x16 toned panel, one medium gray and one black broad-tip felt marker, painting supplies, lunch.

FINALLY Please contact me at <ebertole@yahoo.com> if you are interested in this one-day workshop. Also, if you have any suggestions you feel would make the workshop better suited to your needs, I would be interested in hearing what they are.

Aloha Artists and Friends,

Hope you are out enjoying the spring weather.

It is with great honor and pleasure that I share the attached painting entitled Sugarmill Morning. It received the "Artists Choice Award" for the 5th Annual Maui Plein Air Invitational last month. It was a great week of painting with all the artists in the event.

My first two workshops this spring have filled, so I wanted to keep you up to date on the remaining class calendar detailed below.

Cheers - and Happy Painting!
